West Texas DA Opens Criminal Probe Into Student Mailers Sent Under a Group's Name Without Permission

The pamphlets came addressed to the ‘Students of the [Family Name] Family,’ with a return address that does not exist, as early voting began.

District Attorney Sarah Stogner, who serves Ward, Reeves and Loving counties, has opened a criminal investigation into glossy mailers sent to Texas households, FOX 4 reports. Stogner said she believes the mailers could amount to forgery and were likely politically motivated.

The pamphlet, titled “Texas Trans & LGBTQ+ Student Resource Guide,” covers students’ legal rights, emancipation and finding support outside the family. It cites the Transgender Education Network of Texas, which says it did not write or authorize it. The envelopes list “Texas Transgender Student Union LLC,” a Wyoming company filed on Sept. 2, 2026, whose registered agent is another LLC linked to hundreds of shell companies. The return address, in Meadows Place, Texas, does not exist.

The mailers were addressed to “Students Of The [Family Name] Family” and arrived as early voting began. Stogner said she wants to know who sent them and how they obtained Texas families’ addresses, and that the investigation could expand to the federal level. “People are angry,” she said.

Parents quoted by FOX 4 said the mailers crossed a line regardless of political affiliation. No sender has been identified, and no charges have been announced.

Why it matters. Two principles are at stake. First, parents are the first authority over their children, and anonymous mail aimed at minors and encouraging them to seek support “outside the family” goes around them. Second, using an organization’s name without its consent to stir voters days before an election is the kind of deception that corrodes trust on every side. Whoever is behind it, the facts should come out.

The other side. Some commentators have asked whether the mailers are protected speech rather than forgery; Stogner’s office has not yet said what statute it is examining. The organization whose name was used denies any involvement.

Open questions. Who formed the Wyoming LLC, where the mailing list came from, and whether federal investigators get involved.
